Flu Shots

Jonathan, Ethan, and I all got flu shots today. The boys had their appointments scheduled since last week. I tried to get their flu shots done last week, but the nurse told me that since Ethan had just finished his steroid from the surgery, it would interfere with the flu antibodies. We had to wait 10 days, so I rescheduled for this week. Luckily I found this out before we went to the appointment.

This morning when he woke up, I told Jonathan that he was going to go to the doctor today. He asked if he was going to get a shot and I said yes. I told him earlier in the week that he was going to get a shot on Friday. So he obviously remembered. When we got to the doctor, we were pretty much called back right away. We got into the room and the nurse asked who was going to go first. Jonathan pointed at Ethan, but I told him he was the older one so he was going first. He tried to run away from me and I had to catch him as he ran around the room. Once I had him, he sat really still on my lap and was looking in the mirror. He was tense and the nurse told him to relax, but he was looking at everything going on in the mirror. She told him to look over there on the wall and while he was looking at the other wall, she poked him. It was over before he knew it. He didn't even cry. I was SO proud of him. Then Ethan had his turn. He started to cry when I pulled hi pants down and laid him on the table. He cried until we got out to the car and then he was over it too. Overall, it was a very successful vaccine day. I was SO proud of both of my boys!

About an hour and a half later, Jonathan started itching and he had some kind of red splotchy rash. I thought it was a reaction tot he shot, but when I talked to the nurse, she wasn't sure. I was just supposed to wash it. He's had flu shots before and never had a problem. He also hadn't eaten anything different or wore different clothes, so who know what this was about.

Later on, I received a letter from Evergreen Hospital informing me that they want all of their employees and volunteers to be vaccinated against the flu. They were holding a clinic this week for free. You can't beat free. As soon as Bob's parents arrived and the boys were occupied, I went and got my shot at the flu clinic. The only thing I don't like about the flu shot is the soreness that your arm feels.
